Default Comment highlighting in Word 2007

De gustibus... Word 2003 does actually highlight a word for a point comment.
Word 2002 did not, and users complained that they couldn't tell what the
comment was meant to apply to.

Who decided to FORCE highlighting in comments. We routinely use comments
AND
highlighting in group documents and overriding our highlighting with
Word's
highlighting is decidedly user-unfriendly. We want to be able to see
comments
AND our original highlighting. Why is this ridiculous highlighting the
default and why is there apparently no way to turn it off?!?

The default of selecting a word for EVERY comment is also very unfriendly,
and also cannot be turned off. Microsoft's own documents seemingly lie
about
this functionality http://support.microsoft.com/kb/286169. While Word
2003,
the prior version, DID allow point comments (showing only the I shaped
cursor
location), Word 2007 does not.
