Good point.

I confess that some of the documents I revise annually still have manual TOCs
because (a) the use of headings is haphazard (some headings are included,
others at the same level not), and (b) the page numbers change only minimally
from year to year. These documents are "yearbooks" of various societies that
list the members, officers, committees, bylaws, etc. The originals were created
many years ago (when I was less expert g), and revisions each year are
minimal; going back and "doing it right" would result in no apparent difference
in the end result but would cost the client a good bit more.

I can't imagine that anyone who has read an article on (semi-)automatic TOCs
would go on creating TOCs manually?

As Stefan says, the best way to create a TOC is to use Word's built-in
feature
to do this (see http://www.ShaunaKelly.com/word/toc/CreateATOC.html). But if
you continue to build it by hand, see
http://sbarnhill.mvps.org/WordFAQs/NumberAlignment.htm (Word 2003 and
earlier)
or http://sbarnhill.mvps.org/WordFAQs/N...gnment2007.htm, as
appropriate.

Hi I have problems to accommodate my table of contents in word.
1
Intorduction...................................... .................................................5
1.1 Intorduction into
topic............................................. .....................5
1.2 Motivation und objective
target............................................ .......6
1.3 Structure of the
work.............................................. ...................... 7
The first item is given in my document. I want to create further sub-items.
The problem is that the page numbers 5 in 1st and 2nd line and 6 and 7 at
the
right side are not straight lined.
My question: Is there any function to create the dots after "topic",
"target", "work" automatically that the page numbers at the end of every
line
are straight lined?
Thanks in Advance
