Default Applying "Not Bold" as character style

Hi Pesach,

Thus, I think that you can achieve what you want (have the beginning of the
paragraph not bold) by selecting the part of the paragraph that you want to
be bold and then applying your Byline style. This will apply the paragraph
formatting in the Byline style to the enire paragraph, but will apply the
character formatting defined in the Byline style only to the selected text.

Sorry, this doesn't work. The character formatting is applied to the entire
paragraph. (I think the rules you describe concern linked styles, not the
regular paragraph styles.)

In the meantime I've discovered that it is actually possible to set a
character style to Not Bold from VBA. However, that makes no difference - the
selected text still stays bold.

But in any case Stefan supplied a technique that works and thanks to both of
you!
