When you merge two paragraphs, the style of the first paragraph will be
applied to the second paragraph as well. (Strictly speaking, what you are
deleting is not a "space" but the paragraph mark that separates the
paragraphs. To show/hide paragraph marks, ¶, and other nonprinting marks,
press Ctrl+Shift+8.) Depending on what you are trying to accomplish, you may
