I did what you just said and it worked. But I have to put a darker
background. At original shading of 10%, it no longer show and I need change
the shading to 20%. However, on my 2nd computer, with the same version of
Office XP, I can see and print the 10% shading.

Borders and Shading. Select your shading color and make sure that you have
"Text" selected under "Apply to" (it should be by default).
