any idea if this option is possible with Adobe Pro 6, from Word, on a Mac.
Can't seem to find it. Also, if I get version 7 do think this option will be
available then.

This is an Adobe settings issue. I use Adobe Pro version 7. If I choose
Change Conversion Settings from Adobe's toolbar in Word, one of the options
in the Settings tab is Add Links to Adobe PDF. With that option enabled,
links in the document are carried over into the .pdf file.
