The simplest method is to use a pair of conditional fields.
Centred in the footer
{IF {Page} = 1 "- {Page} - "}
Aligned right in the header
{IF {Page} 1 "- {Page} - "}
Use CTRL+F9 to insert the field boundaries.

What I mean is, I'm writing a term paper and I need to change the
position of numbers according to each page... for example:
CHAPTER PAGE
-1- (at center and bottom)
and continuing on the following pages of the chapter, I need to have
the numbers at the top right hand side of the paper.
....... -2-
....
..........
....
and like that
but when I try to do it, Word likes to apply it to all pages of the
document. And, of course, I can't just white it out, it'll look tacky
please help
it's very annoying.
