Not to mention that none of those shortcuts would get rid of any kind of
formatting.

has nothing to do with upgrading or being able to use a new version. Your
old shortcuts should continue to work in a new version.

An answer to your question - probably the most accurate one - is that you
cannot remove *all* formatting
