Try whether the following solves the problem:
Select Format Columns. In the "Apply to" field, make sure "Whole document"
is selected. Click the "One" icon (even if it is selected). Click OK.
If it solves the problem, you will need to apply the same change to
Normal.dot (since you tell the problem is in all new documents). See:
