Default Custom toolbar - buttons being deleted

1. The toolbar was neither deleted nor turned off - it was on, but empty of
the items that had been added.

2. There was one additional normal.dot, which was removed, but the problem
still occurred.

I have no idea how I fixed this, but I did.

First, I deleted the toolbar so that I could recopy it from her backed up
normal. But when I went to do that, I found that it was still there....so I
deleted it some more. But it still wasn't working, so I ultimately opened
her normal, deleted it, recopied it and renamed it (I had to do this twice).
THEN I finally got rid of prior traces of it.

At the same time, I moved it down into the editing area so that it was a
floating toolbar.

Now it's working, and I was able to move it back up with the rest of the
toolbars, and it's still sticking.

So I'm not sure if there was some toolbar residue issue going on, or perhaps
something in the data key that I affected when I moved it....or maybe it was
just magic!

Hi MKG

Two things to look for.

1. Is the toolbar deleted, or just turned off?

2. I'd look for multiple normal.dot files, either on the local machine or in
any server location identified at Tools Options File Locations. And,
check out each add-in listed at Tools Templates and Add-ins.

3. I suspect that the real clue is he
When she closes/reopens Word, it's still there.
But if she logs off, that's when the problems start.

As far as I know, Word doesn't know if it's starting for the first time
after logging on to a network. It just runs an .exe file. So the problem
seems most likely to me to be in the log in procedure. Are any scripts
running on log in?

Hope this helps.

This is an odd one. We have a user who has created a separate toolbar
which
is saved in her normal.dot. When she closes/reopens Word, it's still
there.
But if she logs off, that's when the problems start.

The odd thing is that after logging back in and launching Word, while Word
is still loading you can see the INTACT toolbar - but the buttons
disappear
as you watch!

The user does have the full version of Adobe installed - but we're aware
of
the problems with that. Besides, the fact that the toolbar remains after
closing/reopening would indicate that that's not the issue.

I do have a few things I plan to check into - bad data key, corrupt
normal,
suppressing startup macros/templates, perhaps even upgrading adobe - but
I'm
a pessimist, and I want to have some ideas on tap if all of the above
fail.

So if you have any ideas what could be causing this, outside of anything
I've mentioned, or if you know that it's one of the items I mentioned,
please
let me know!
