Tools Options Edit (tab)

Uncheck "keep track of formatting."

Note, though, that Word is _not_ adding styles but simply tracking your
formatting here.

I apply a preset style to a paragraph. Then I have to make individual words
bold, ital, etc. Every time I do that, Word adds a new style to my
template.
I have turned off all the auto formatting commands that Help directs me
to,
but the new styles continue to be developed. How can I stop Word from
developing so many new styles?
