Default Insertion point

If you actually wanted to use "Click and type," you could double-click
anywhere on the page to start typing there. The pointer shows you whether
you would get left-aligned, centered, or right-aligned text. The only
problem is that the way this is done is by inserting dozens of empty
paragraphs, tab characters, spaces, etc. Very inelegant!

Suzanne, thanks a million for the fast response. It would never have
occurred to me that that was the item controlling the insertion point!

On the Edit tab of Tools | Options, clear the check box for "Click and
type."

I had to reinstall Word 2002 on a new hard drive, and now the insertion
point has these small horizontal lines that move along with the

insertion
point (either leading or trailing depending on how the insertion point

is
moved) . How do I go back to the simple vertical insertion point

without
these little accompanying lines? I looked all over in Tools / Options

but
couldn't find anything.

Thanks in advance.
