Default Color non-printing characters?

You could always switch to a Mac, which does display them as grey.

Only by applying direct formatting or a character style to them, one by
one,
after they exist. There isn't any option to make them automatically have
another
color. (Unless the other color was something like 50% gray, I'd think it
would
be extremely hard to read.)
