I have a word doc that has page breaks. Having difficulty understanding why
when you type on one page the information typed in on the following page
remains static however, elsewhere in the document, when you type on a page
either free standing paragraphs or within inserted tables, the information on
the next page taps down/moves as you type.

That's the way page breaks work. A page break starts a new page
regardless of whether the previous page has only 1 word on it or is
99.9% full. If the previous page still has space on it, stuff you type
will go into that space.
