Are your headings in text boxes, by any chance? Word can't see text in text
boxes. If you have a legitimate need to wrap the headings, convert the text
boxes to frames.

I do have heading styles in my document. And the table of contents
options
are supposed to pick them up. I also tried following the whole tutorial
you
presented, to no avail. It still has the same error. I will keep
tinkering
with it, in hopes it will respond.
Thank you for your help though.

I am trying to write the table of contents for my dissertation, but
when I
try to use the Insert-Index-Table of Contents thing, as the tutorial
describes, I get this error every time, regardless of how much I try
and
manipulate my text.
Error! No table of contents entries found.
I don't understand what would be causing this. Any ideas? It works
when
I
type in gibberish, but when I type in my table of contents
information, it
gets me everytime.
Thanks
