Default Correcting a mail merge recipient list

Use your existing list as the data source for a Directory type mail merge in
the main document of which, you insert the merge fields into the cells of a
one row table. When you execute that merge to a new document, that document
will contain a table with one row of data for each record in your data
source. You can edit the data in that table and then insert a row at the
top of the table into which you insert the merge field names (just the
names). Then you can save that document and use it as the data source for
your mail merging.

I have made address corrections etc. to an existing data source list in
the
"edit recipient list" feature of a mail merge but they don't save to the
data
source list. My original data source was created in Word 2003 and I'm now
using Word 2007. I have tried going directly to the list via "My Data
Sources" but the file doesn't open correctly and the only way I can get to
it
is through the mail merge feature. What am I doing wrong?
