Default List Style in negative white space

Have you tried experimenting with different alignments for the list
numbering (Right or Center)?

See here for information on including the chapter number:

I have been trying to find a way to use the Multilevel list/List style
features to add chapter numbering to a report Heading that has a 2" left
margin and puts the number tabbed over to a center tab within the white
space. I can get the number added and make it -2" alignment but have not
found a way to insert a tab in front of the number so that it will go over
to
the center tab within the white space. I'm thinking this is not yet
possible
with 2007 but was so hoping they had made this feature more flexible with
styling. It would be nice to be able to include the chapter in the page
numbers so the TOC is not so much work (some TOCs can be 15+pages and
chapter
numbers have to be inserted manually). Is there another way to add chapter
number to page numbering automatically or do what I have outlined above?
