So true, and so sad.

Actually we don't know for sure that it does, because when *searching*
Help we only get irrelevant hits. g

Because Word's Help sucks?

Why did I have to type this question into Google to find the answer? I
should be able to find the answer in Word's Help. Why couldn't I?

Line Number is a character style. In the Styles group on the Home tab,
click
the dialog launcher to open the Style pane. Click on the Manage Styles
button at the bottom. On the Edit tab, change the sort order to
Alphabetical
so you can easily locate the Line Number style. Select it, click
Modify, and
make the desired changes. Note that it is based on Default Paragraph
Font;
since there's really no paragraph style for line numbers (except maybe
Normal), presumably this will, by default, be the default document
style.

I approached it slightly different...I'm using MS Word 2003. I
selected
Format, then Font and I clicked on the Default button found on the
bottom
left of the Font Window. A dialogue box opened and asked if I wanted
to
change the Default font for the entire document to the font and size
I had
selected. I clicked "Yes" and the line number font automatically
changed to
match the rest of my document. I think that this may be the same
kind of
suggestion mentioned, but I found it in a slightly different way.

The difference is that what Suzanne suggested changes the settings
of the
Line Number style explicitly, while your approach changes the font
of the
Normal style for the current document (and its template).

Suzanne yes you were on the right track. I actually had all the
document in Times New Roman however Line Numbering was in Arial. I
went into Styles (as suggested by Suzanne)and then scrolled through
the list and found Line Numbering clicked on the drop down arrow
and then selected properties and changed the font to Times New
Roman. All tested ok issue was resolved! Thanks
