Default Updating toc field code

Well, there are some things you can do. For example, you can nest a
cross-reference or a STYLEREF field within a TC field but, of course, this
requires extra work when you first set it up.

If you can base your TOC on paragraph styles instead, that will be easier.

Thank you for your answer. To confirm, I guess there is no automatic way
to
update tc field contents to correspond to changes?...each code field has
to
be manually updated?

Are you saying that your TOC is based on TC (table of contents entry)
fields? If so, yes, you will have to modify the contents of a TC field
after
you've changed the corresponding heading. Then you can place the
insertion
point inside the TOC field and press F9 to update it.

To work with TC fields, show hidden text in your document.

When I make changes on main text (heading), the heading within the
field
bracket does not update automatically. Consequently, my table of
contents
wouldn't reflect the updates either. Is there a way/shortcut key to
update
field code changes all at once?

I've tried ctrl+a F9.don't even know if this is the way.did not work.
Please help. Thanks.
