Default Styles not formatting properly

Some avenues you could explo

1. What styles are the styles based on? Is Note based on Normal? Is Note 2
based on Note? Etc. See
http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/styl...esCascade.html

2. How did you apply the indents? In the Format | Paragraph dialog? Or was
Bullets and Numbering implicated in any way? Is there a chance that some
bullet/numbering influence could somehow be affecting these
styles/paragraphs?

3. If you reattach the template (in which the styles are defined correctly)
with "Automatically update document styles" checked, does this make any
difference?

Forgive me for my lengthy post, but I thought I would provide enough
information for you to help me determine why my styles are not formatting
properly.

First, I am using Microsoft Office 2003 Professional. Now for the

details.

My coworkers and I have our Normal.dot set up with the exact same styles

and
style attributes. We also share a document template that has also been

set
up with the exact same styles and style attributes as those found in the
Normal.dot file.

I know, we don't need both, but the document templates are used primarily

by
the engineers, not the members of my team.

Anyway, if I open a new document (File | New), type 3 sentences, then

apply
the Note style to the first sentence, the term Note is left justified. If

I
apply Note 2 to the second sentence, the term Note is indented 1/4 inch.

If
I apply Note 3 to the third sentence, the term Note is indented 1/2 inch.
This is the formatting we have applied to each of the three Note styles

we've
built.

Unfortunately, the formatting doesn't work the same in a document that was
created using the document template I mentioned above. Note 1 is left
justified, as it should be, but Note 2 and Note 3 are really misaligned.
Note 2 indents 3/4 inch and Note 3 indents slightly more than 1/4 inch.

In
other words, Note 2 is indented more than Note 3. This is baffling

because
the document template has the exact same styles and style attributes as
Normal.dot.

Using Organizer, I copied the two Note styles from Normal.dot to the

current
document's styles and tried to re-apply the two styles to the text in the
document. Not surprisingly, there were no changes in the positioning of

the
Note terms.

Two questions -
1. Considering the styles in the document template were built with the
exact same style attributes as those in Normal.dot, why didn't Note 2 and
Note 3 align properly - the way they aligned in the blank document when
Normal.dot was used to format the three sentences??

2. Normal.dot formatted the text correctly in a new document (File |

New),
but when copied to the current document's styles and applied to the text,

the
text would NOT format correctly. It was misaligned. Can someone please

tell
me why??

Any information you can share would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for all your help.
