This is called a hanging indent. Format | Paragraph: Special: Hanging. It's
a lot easier to set with the ruler. If you use autonumbered styles, a
hanging indent is built in. See

looks neater if there is a left margin slightly to the right of the Roman
numeral, letter or whatever. If I play with the margin it moves the whole
paragraph including the letter or number and this isn't what I want.
