Default How do I see table lines when there is no border in Word 2007?

The path I provided is the one given in the Word 2007 Command Reference.
Does it not work?

After much angst and quite a bit of time unsuccessfully searching help, I
finally found how to turn on the lines: Table Tools Design Tab Borders
Pull down menu View Grid Lines

In earlier versions the lines would be gray. I'm sure it's an option
somewhere but I can't it.
