There are two parts to the answer to your question because there are two
things at play here, spacing within paragraphs and spacing between
paragraphs:
1. The paragraph style you're using is set for Single spacing, but it also
has some Spacing Before/After to create a "blank line" between paragraphs.
If you go to Format | Paragraph, you can see this spacing and reset it to 0
if desired.
2. If you *want* space between paragraphs, however, you can create a new
line without creating a new paragraph by pressing Shift+Enter, which inserts
a line break. This is helpful when you're typing poetry, for example, and
want single spacing between verses but double spacing between stanzas.
