Default typing single space, hit enter cursor drops 2 spaces, I want 1

Shift + Enter doesn't start a new paragraph. Sorry if I gave that impression.
It usually when typing the items in an address that people just want a new
line and are happy enough when the space occurs when they really want a new
paragraph.

If you are using Word 2007 right-click on the style in the toolbar and change
the settings in format | paragraph. The settings are for space before/after.
You then need to make this the default for all documents. If you just want to
override it in the present document, just hold down the shift key when you
hit enter.
