Default Windword.exe process in Task Mangaer Question

If you have Office 2003 or earlier, and if you've chosen to use Word as the
message editor for Outlook, then the WinWord.exe process will be running as
long as Outlook is up. You would have to close Outlook, or choose to use the
built-in editor instead of Word.

In Office 2007, this is no longer true, as the message editor is a DLL that
runs in Outlook's process and doesn't appear separately in the process list.

This process is not always consistently shutdown. Sometimes
Winword.exe stays running and can be seen in Task Manager eventhough
Word has been shutdown. Does anybody know why and what I can do to
make sure the process is shutdown when the application is shutdown?
