I Couldn't find the default button as suggested by Terry, perhaps this is
because I'm using excel 2003. If you are using 2003 You can create a
default
template which will store your preferred settings for all future
documents.

Open a blank workbook, make your changes to settings as required
(e.g., page
size, margins, etc.) and save the workbook as a workbook template
(book.xlt)
into the XLSTART directory, usually c:\program files\microsoft
office\office
11\xlstart
(You will need to exit excel and start it again in order for the
changes to
be picked up). Any new workbooks you create will pick up the settings
saved
in this template.

I setup a page layout in menu

File-page setup.

As far as I know these settings are stored in the document itself.

Now I call menu

File-page preview

and click on the preview window the button "setup..."

If I change now these settings (again): Are these changes temporary or
are they saved permanently in the document resp. are the old settings
overwritten?
