Default Any way to write-protect certain characters?

Thank youm Shauuna!

My reason for using section breaks is to allow me to change footers
within the document as the topic changes. At that time, I also reset the
page number in the footer.

You didn't mention footers as one of the reasons for using section
breaks, but I can 't think of another way to insure that my footers change
the way I want them to.

I looked up STYLEREF, but it doesn't seem to address the issue I am
concerned about. It is also more advanced than I like to get.

Please comment on the footer issue specifically.

Hi Gary

First, let's try to avoid the problem. Do you really need the section
breaks? Unless you're changing margins, page orientation (landscape to
portrait, or vice versa) or number of columns, you may not need a section
break. If you want a running header, for example, look up Word's help on
the STYLEREF field.

If it's not possible to avoid the problem, then see
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Customizat...PlusHeader.htm

Hope this helps.

I have a long document separated by sections. Others edit the
document, and sometimes they delete the section breaks then save the
document. The messes up all my headers and footers, which depend upon
the section marks.

I am hoping there is a way to write-protect the section breaks. I
know that seems unrealistic, but I am hoping to get lucky.

Am I lucky?
