Hi macropod,
Thanks for your reply, but I was hoping for something a little more
informative, i.e. which formats suit which situation best and information
about the resulting file sizes. I know about linking vs not linking. My issue
is that many of these different formats have what appear to be the same
outcome in Word - so i can't really compare or make an informed decision
about which to use in my situation.
I was hoping for an informed response about the functional differences of
the different formats offered by MS Word - without my having to learn the
hard way (i.e. trial and potentially error). Just as I have learnt about the
differences between using jpegs or bitmaps (i.e. when to use which) I was
hoping there would be some more definitive rationale for the different
formats being offerred.

The best paste format depends on your needs. Experiment with them to see which format best suits a given situation. Bear in mind
that the enhanced metafile format doesn't allow linking. Linking allows you to keep the Word data synchronized to the Excel
workbook.

I am compiling a large thesis and want to choose the most efficient format
for the numerous data tables which will be imbeded in the doc. I will be
keeping the original datasets in Excel, but want to use the best format for
keeping size of the final doc down and ensuring the formatting doesn't get
messy whilst the document is being edited, referenced and repaginated.
Does anyone have the pros and cons of using RTF versus MS Word Doc Object
versus picture files (2 types: Windows and Enhanced). (I don't need to
reformat or edit the data once pasted).
