Default Toolbars Moving Around :-(

wrote in message
...
Yes, v. 5. I've had it installed for several years, along with Word XP,
and they have been playing nicely together. Once I
started making some customized templates, though, all H*** broke loose. I
cannot find the adobe PDF add-in.

That sounds very much like our old friend!

If I could, I
would move it out of the folder until I need it again.

Can you help?

The Adobe PDFMaker addin is notorious for this - even if it is no longer in
operation, the crud it leaves behind causes trouble.

Go to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\STARTUP

If there are files names "PDFMaker.dot" or similar, close Word, and then
move them out of that folder.

The chances are also quite high that normal.dot has got corrupted, so a
fresh copy of that is probably a good idea. Navigate to your user templates
folder (probably C:\Documents and Settings\username\Microsoft\Templates,
where username is the name you use to log on.) Rename normal.dot to
oldnormal.dot. This way, any corruption in the toolbars and add-ins is no
longer going to affect everything you do, but you can still get at any VBA
code in the old normal.dot if you need to.

Now restart Word and see if things start behaving better. If problems
continue, post back here with a more detailed description of precisely what
happens.
