Default Word Form and Vista

Vista is an operating system and has nothing whatsoever to do with Word.

I assume that you are referring to a document created in a Word version
prior to Word 2007? That being the case, the forms tools are on the
Developer tab (this is not installed by default, so you will have to
activate it from the Office Button Word Options Popular Show Developer
on the Ribbon.)

Word before 2007 used what 2007 refers to as 'legacy tools' and you should
only use these in a form that will cross platforms (in fact I would suggest
you only use them whether or not the form is to cross platforms). You will
see the Protect document control on the Developer tab.

If you install the add-in from
http://gregmaxey.mvps.org/Classic%20Form%20Controls.htm you may find it
easier to use the old forms controls and this also adds the familiar padlock
button.
