Default How can I replace underlining with italics?

Is that easier than the CTRL+U and CTRL+I suggested earlier by Suzanne?
These commands toggle through the options provided by the shortcuts.

WORD 2007

Here is an example which I hope answers your question.

On a page I have 3 pieces of text that are all underlined.

I want to replace this so that the 3 pieces of text are italics.

Take the following actions:-

1. Ctrl-F to launch Find and Replace.

2. Make sure that in the Find tab / Find what: field that there is nothing
(it's blank).

Click on No Formatting in the lower right hand corner.

3. Click on More button in lower left hand corner (you may not have to
do
this if this field is already open).

Less should now appear in the window about half way down the window on
the
left hand side).

4. In the lower left hand corner click on the Format drop down arrow.

5. Select Font . . .

6. In the Font tab in the Underline style: field click on the type of line
that you are looking for then hit OK.

7. You should now find that the word:-

Underline

- appears beneath the Find what: field.

8. Click on the Replace tab.

Click in the Replace with: field.

Hit No Formatting in the lower right hand corner.

9. In the lower left hand corner click on the Format drop down arrow.

10. Select Font . . .

11. In the Font tab in the Font style: field click on Italic then hit OK.

12. You should now find that the words:-

Font: Italic

- appears beneath the Replace with: field.

13. Make sure that there is nothing in either the Find what: field or the
Replace with: field.

14. Now hit Replace All

In the above example a warning now appears saying that 3 replacements have
been made (this was correct).

Hit OK

Close the Find and Replace window.

If my comments have helped please hit Yes.

Thanks.
