That's done it - many thanks

The first thing to do is to go to the Table tab of Table Properties,
click
Options, and clear the "Automatically resize to fit contents" box. Or use
Table | AutoFit | Fixed Column Width. See also

Hi there - my first post.

I am really struggling with settings in Word 2003, SP2, to which we
have
just been upgraded (a little slow, I know).

In Word 97, I could choose properties for rows and columns in tables
and
they would remain constant i.e de-select the fixed width / height
property
(Specified / Preferred) and then set my own width / height for cells /
rows
by setting properties or by dragging borders to desired positions.

Currently, W03 will not let me do this and KEEPS on changing back to
set
widths / heights. In addition, I am unable to use the SHIFT key +
mouse
to
change a column width AND move all columns to the right of my selected
position so that they fit AS I WANT. I am left with the opinion that
someone
somewhere thinks that they know best. I REALLY HOPE THIS IS NOT THE
CASE
as
that would be just too arrogant!

PLEASE, is there any way of permanently changing the table property
settings
in W03 so that they do not default to fixed widths / heights. I'd
really
like to be able to do my own table design!!

In advance, thanks.
