Tim, thanks for your reply.
Where is the setting to modify the numbering for the Heading Style?
For example, how do I change Heading 1, Heading 2, and Heading as shown
below?
I.
A.
1.
and change the Heading styles to
1.
A.
(i)

That's the problem I am having.

Sorry, but it's one basic question. I don't know how we're supposed to
modify Heading styles now that the Customize is gone. The utility you
gave me is great and I've been using it. But it doesn't help with the
nitty-gritty of modifying Heading styles.

How do you modify Heading styles now? Where is the "Customize" so I
can get in there and change the numbering format, etc. When I
doFormat... Numbering says NONE. What happened to the Customize??
And what is this "Multi Numbering List" feature. Is that how it's
done now? Please advise. Thanks.
Whew...that's a lot of questions in one paragraph. Have a look at
this: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/wo...744321033.aspx

It's a pretty useful utility that will get you started on how to do
common things in Word 2007. If that doesn't help, re-post.

Look in the "Styles" group. See the funny looking arrow/box in the lower
right portion of the group? Click on it. It will open the Styles box.
That should now look familiar. Just highlight a style, click on the down
arrow and then click on Modify.

The example you gave helped. I suspect the "secret" you need to modify the
heading style is this. With the cursor on the line/heading you want to
modify, click on the down arrow immediately to the right of the
"Numbering" button in the Paragraph group. Then choose "Define New Number
Format". There you can modify the number style and the number format.

Hope that helps.
