This does not have to do with Word 2000/2003 but probably with two different
normal.dot templates and with a setting in your documents to update styles
from the template. Open your documents in Word 2000. Under Tools Templates
and Add-Ins, uncheck this option for each of the documents. Then see if the
problem persists.
