Default MathType to Characters

Bob,

Thanks for answering. I had assumed that there was really no "easy answer"
for this - but thought I would give it shot anyway.

I may just have to look into creating a new translator.
Thanks, Kathleen

KAM,

Unfortunately, the solution you mentioned is the only one I'm aware of, that
being for you to write your own translator. Perhaps the MathType SDK can be
of use to you. Part of the SDK is a Translator Programmers Manual. The
MathType SDK is available for free download at
http://www.dessci.com/en/reference/sdk/default.htm.

We receive files in that have Equations in the Word document -
either Equation Editor or MathType. The problem is that many
times the items do not need to be in MathType. We receive files
that an italic "s" or italic "t" sub "0" is in MathType.

We need these types of elements entered directly in Word - the
"s" could just be typed off the keyboard and italicized. a+b=c does
not need to be in MathType. Greek characters do not need to be
in MathType.

Are there any other export(conversion) filters for MathType other
than the default ones that come with MathType?
(Yes, I know that I can write my own - but I was really trying to
avoid that).
