I don't know the answer, but I ran a quick google search and found
similar info. If the info below doesn't help, I'd suggest you post to
the appropriate Windows networking group for further help...

message "The directory service is currently unavailable".
Running Windows 2000. Only happening on machines that
were reinstalled. Any help would be greatly

Usually a DNS lookup problem. Make sure on any machines (DCs. member
servers, current machines and the ones you reinstalled) ONLY use the
internal DNS server since that is where clients will "LOOK" for AD
stuff. If you are using your ISP's DNS in any machines IP properties,
then this can cause this problem, among numerous other problems.
