Default How to number in one section but not another

As Suzanne wrote, this won't be the best way to do it; you should be able to
accomplish what you want more easily.

A possible source of confusion here is that each Word section can have up to
three different headers (and footers), namely if both "Different odd and
even" and "Different first page" are checked in the Page Setup dialog box.
You can see the type of header displayed once you've activated the
header/footer area (for example by double-clicking the header). And you can
move between different headers (different footers) by using the Next and
Previous buttons on the Header and Footer toolbar.

When there are more than one type of header and footer present, each type
must be separately unlinked from the corresponding one in the previous
section. (Note that you may have to temporarily insert a manual page break
to see all the headers and footers and unlink them.) For more, see
http://sbarnhill.mvps.org/WordFAQs/HeaderFooter.htm.

Never mind, I got it. I just put a section break after every page and set
to
use different first page.

Sorry, but I don't get it. If you follow steps 1 and 2 you get separately
numbered sections. When you try to remove the numbers from the first
section,
both sections empty. Maybe I am not "unlinking" them correctly?

You will have to unlink the footer (or header, depending on where page
numbers reside) of the first section. For more about this, see

I'm using Word 2002 and I have a document divided into two sections.
I
don't
want the pages in the first section to be numbered but do want the
pages
in
the second section to be numbered. I removed all the existing
numbers
and
successfully numbered the pages in the second section; however,
numbers
reappear in the first section. If I then delete the numbers in the
first
section, the numbers in both sections disappear. How do I solve
this?
