Default Word Templates saving in the wrong spot

Hi Jake,

There are several factors involved, what made the decision final is one we don't know for sure, but there have been schools and
businesses who wanted folks to be able to create templates but who didn't want to grant write access to the templates folder, or
have templates shared (for business sensitivity and other reasons), or who didn't want a specific template accidentally or
deliberately replaced. Others wanted a limited ability to save safely and to be able to monitor files on the network used by others
which is, in part, why Office 2007 has the 'Trust Center' and 'trusted locations'.

In Office 2007 there are also a number of new/changed uses for template files other than using them only as the basis for creating a
new document, so that one of the questions then becomes how does Word know which template use you're wanting to use

In the Save dialog the 'Trusted locations' choice can be accessed through the Places bar.

For collaboration, templates might reside on an Office Sharepoint site or other location as well.

news Why do word templates now in 2007 save in the default doc folder, not the
templates folder. The optionas are set to the roaming/template folder.
