Default how to use a decimal tab stop for numbered list

Although it sometimes requires some trial and error to get the number, tab,
and indent positions just right, this does work very well. For ordinary
numbered lists that won't often exceed nine, I have my List Number style
defined with a right-aligned number (followed by a period) at 0.13" and tab
and indent at 0.25". This puts a single 12-point TNR number flush left at
the margin, with extra digits (if any) hanging outside the margin). If most
of your lists will be 10 or more, you'll probably want the tens place flush
left (leaving 1-9 slightly indented), or you may want to indent the entire
list somewhat so that all the numbers are away from the left margin. The
0.12" between period and numbered item is generous; 0.10" is adequate for
most 12-point lists.

Thank you so much! I have been going in circles - it figures it was
something
simple that I was overlooking!

I appreciate your quick response too!

Please help.

I understand how to set a decimal tab stop using the Tab dialog box or
ruler, but I want to use it with outlined numbering and I can't get it
to
work. I am attempting to align the decimals in the numbered list so
that
when
the list reaches number ten, the tab space remains the same (as with
number
one, two, etc.) to the right of the decimal.

I have a customized number style for the top outline level. Then, I
used
the
default styles associated the associated outline numbered list. I have
modified (customized) the number and text position for the top level of
the
outlined numbered list. Then, I created a decimal tab stop using
Paragraph
formatting.

Would someone please provide the steps for using a decimal tab stop
with
an
outline numbered list? Thanks!
