Problem with mail merge and works database
I have a pc that has Works suite 2004 with Word 2002. The pc also has MS
Publisher 2002. In the past we have been able to take a works database with addresses and names use mail merge to create labels in Word and in MS Publisher. A few weeks ago something changed and now Word no longer recognizes word databases and tries to convert them. MS Publisher give an error on trying to use the mail merge in it. No software has been added or removed from the pc. The only change that has been made was the removal of some spyware. I am sure that some dll somewhere has been corrupted. Reinstalling the applications do not seem to help. Any ideas as to what could be corrupted and how to fix it? Thanks. |

Hi ?B?dGVjaG1hbg==?=,
Whenever asking for help, you should always quote all error message texts. That might have given us a clue. Have you tried using Help/Detect and Repair in any of these programs? You might try asking this in a Works newsgroup. Generally, though, for Word and Works to work together for mail merge requires an Addin be installed. Perhaps the Addin was removed at some point. Word 2002 and Word 2003 should have a converter that recognizes a Works database as a database format. Perhaps (quite likely) that converter has been removed or is no longer registered. There's a chance that you could select and reinstall it by running a "Change" setup through the Control Panel/Add remove programs. You'd need to drill down through the OFFICE stuff, looking for converters to see what you can turn up. I have a pc that has Works suite 2004 with Word 2002. The pc also has MS Publisher 2002. Sorry about not putting the error. When you try to open the works database
in Word mail merge, it brings up a window that reads "File Conversion" and it wants you to select the file encoding to make the document readable. This never came up before. In MS Publisher 's mail merge it gives a an error message "This operation can not be completed because of dialog or database engine failures." Thanks for any assistance.
