Hi,
I had to reinstall my computer and in Word 2003, when I click File Open, I don't have on the left side the bar with the five icons (My Favorites, Desktop, ...). I don't want to add a place to the bar, I found plenty of questions about that. I want the entire bar to appear. Thanks Olivier |

Close Word and Outlook
Delete the registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\C ommon\Open Find\Places Start Word and it will build a new default key. -- Graham Mayor - Word MVP My web site www.gmayor.com Word MVP web site http://word.mvps.org Olivier wrote: Hi, I had to reinstall my computer and in Word 2003, when I click File Open, I don't have on the left side the bar with the five icons (My Favorites, Desktop, ...). I did it but it doesn't work. I deleted the key, opened again Word. Yes, it
build a new key, but the places bar doesn't show. Any other hint? Does it come back if you open Word in its safe mode (Hold the CTRL key
whilst starting)? If it does, see http://www.gmayor.com/what_to_do_when_word_crashes.htm then http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/...peningWord.htm especially in relation to normal.dot, add-in templates and the Word data key in the registry. If not I am out of ideas. -- Graham Mayor - Word MVP My web site www.gmayor.com Word MVP web site http://word.mvps.org Olivier wrote: I did it but it doesn't work. YES! It comes back when opening in safe mode.
I'll check your links and I'll write here what I found. The truth is that after reinstalling Office, I took normal.dot from a backup in order to recover settings and especially macros! I hope that I don't have to crash that and have a brand new normal.dot. But I have exactly the same problem with Excel (I didn't checked with ppt) and if I open Excel in safe mode I also recover the places bar. This points toward a registry problem and not a Normal.dot problem, I guess. It this correct? Thanks anyway. I agree - a registry issue. See if
http://www.windowsitpro.com/article/...log-boxes.html fixes it. The item shows how to hide the bar. The converse to that would be to display it. -- Graham Mayor - Word MVP My web site www.gmayor.com Word MVP web site http://word.mvps.org Olivier wrote: YES! It comes back when opening in safe mode.
