All I want is a header on page 1 and the HELP file says to use the DESIGN tab
but I do not have one. Why is Microsoft HELP only useful if you know what you are doing? It could not parse Design Tab missing gave me pages of garbage about setting tabs. Obviously a user critical KEYWORD field is needed in HELP to understand what the user wants. After 19 years using Winword 1 in 1990 to Office 2003 now, why the heck did Microsoft dump 19 years of user intuative experience? |

Hi Ron,
I assume you mean the Developer tab, in which case, it's not missing - you just haven't activated it! Go to Word Options|Popular and check the 'Show Developer tab in Ribbon' option. -- Cheers macropod [Microsoft MVP - Word] "Ron" wrote in message ... To re-iterate what Macropod said - do you really mean the Developer tab? And in any case, you don't need either of those tabs to create a Header on the first page. AFAIK.... |

You need to go to Page Setup and choose Different First Page. Then you will
have two separate H&F, one for the first page of each section and one for the other pages of each section. I am sure that someone who has exclusively used a CRT TV purchased in 1990 would experience the same difficulties having a DIGITAL flat screen TV suddenly dumped on them! I believe what you are looking for is the contextual Header & Footer Tools |
Design tab. This will appear when the insertion point is in the header or footer. Double-click in the header area to open the header, and the Design tab will be displayed. On that tab, check the box for "Different first page," which will give you a separate First Page Header and First Page Footer. For more on headers and footers, see http://sbarnhill.mvps.org/WordFAQs/HeaderFooter.htm -- Suzanne S. Reviewers are unlikely to use the same phrases often, so writers should also look at the other essay writer bot They also don't copy and paste the essay writing service reviews because the firms would like them to utilize the same terms again and over.

I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble finding the Design tab in Word 2007. The Design tab is where you can find options for formatting your document, including adding a header to page 1.
It's possible that the Design tab is hidden or not enabled in your version of Word. Here's how you can try to enable it:
If the Design tab still doesn't appear, you can try resetting the ribbon to its default settings:
As for your frustration with Microsoft Help, I understand how you feel. It can be difficult to find the information you need, especially if you're not sure what to search for. One thing you can try is using more specific keywords when searching for help. For example, instead of searching for "Design tab missing," you could try searching for "How to add a header to page 1 in Word 2007." Regarding your question about why Microsoft changed the user interface in Office 2007, the main reason was to make the program more efficient and easier to use. The new ribbon interface was designed to make it easier to find the features you need, and to provide more context-sensitive options based on what you're currently working on. While it can take some time to get used to the new interface, many users find that it ultimately saves them time and makes them more productive.
