Default missing citation/bibliography formats?

I'm working on a paper and am trying to insert my references/sources. The
section only allows me to look in libraries under citations and the rest
cannot be accessed. The box next to "style" states "missing". I've never had
a problem until today. Can anyone help? Thanks.

Have you been able to use the tool before? Can you use the tool if you
create a new document?

Are the styles still there? "missing" could indicate that Word is not able
to locate the styles. They are located in

winword.exe directory\Bibliography\Style

which for a default installation on a 32-bit os is

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\Bibliography\Style

Does that directory exist? Does it contain the files APA.xsl and MLA.xsl
among others?

I've used it before, but not on old or new documents as of yesterday.

There is no "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\Bibliography\Style"
directory.

I don't understand what could have happened.

Are you sure you are looking in the correct place. That is, "winword.exe" is
installed in the "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12" directory. If
so, then it looks like you somehow managed to delete or misplaced the
bibliography styles. You could do a system wide search for APA.xsl and see
if you can find it somewhere else.

You could also try to let Word repair itself. Not sure if that will solve
anything, but it is worth a shot.

I re-checked and had none of that. So, I uninstalled the program and
reinstalled. Everything is working fine now. Thanks for your help. I would
never have known what to do or where to begin.
