![]() I think you can do what you want by using field codes in the footer. http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/wo...102014588.aspx http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/wo...005186179.aspx http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/wo...005186177.aspx Field codes are accessible by insert-quick parts-fields On Saturday, March 2, 2013 3:36:19 PM UTC-8, aw13973 wrote: i have been trying everything i can find on this forum and google. no go i want in the permanent footer filename and path date page x of y i want it to auto update back in the day i could do that, but not in word 2010 the closest i got was putting above into the footer of normal.dotm, but it would not update. any suggestions ? -- aw13973 |

You should modify your template, yes. However, using a custom template is
usually a better idea than modifying Normal.dotm, because header/footer content may interfere with label printing I believe. As far as the field updating is concerned, note that FILENAME fields do not update automatically in recent versions of Word. This was a design change a few versions back. You can force an update by switching to Print Preview (Ctrl+F2) and then back to the previous view (ESC), or you can use a macro to update all fields in the document. For the macro approach, see the example at http://www.gmayor.com/installing_macro.htm. -- Stefan Blom Microsoft Word MVP "aw13973" wrote in message ... thank you is this to be inserted in the footer of a document with footer or in a footer in file normal.dotm ? ;494069 Wrote: I think you can do what you want by using field codes in the footer. http://tinyurl.com/c2zhxd9 http://tinyurl.com/d79etxv http://tinyurl.com/bqwzwtj Field codes are accessible by insert-quick parts-fields On Saturday, March 2, 2013 3:36:19 PM UTC-8, aw13973 wrote:- i have been trying everything i can find on this forum and google. no go i want in the permanent footer filename and path date page x of y i want it to auto update back in the day i could do that, but not in word 2010 the closest i got was putting above into the footer of normal.dotm, but it would not update. any suggestions ? -- aw13973- -- aw13973 |

With recent versions of Word, the FILENAME field won't update automatically.
See the KB article at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/832897/en-us (The FILENAME field does not automatically update when you open a document in Word). You can use a macro to update all fields in a document. Attach the macro to a button on the Quick Access Toolbar and/or to a keyboard shortcut. See http://www.gmayor.com/installing_macro.htm. If you want to avoid macros, you will have to force an update by switching to Print Preview/Backstage (Ctrl+F2) and then back to your previous view (ESC). -- Stefan Blom Microsoft Word MVP "aw13973" wrote in message ... i have been trying everything i can find on this forum and google. no go i want in the permanent footer filename and path date page x of y i want it to auto update back in the day i could do that, but not in word 2010 the closest i got was putting above into the footer of normal.dotm, but it would not update. any suggestions ? -- aw13973 |
