What I mean is, I'm writing a term paper and I need to change the position of
numbers according to each page... for example: CHAPTER PAGE -1- (at center and bottom) and continuing on the following pages of the chapter, I need to have the numbers at the top right hand side of the paper. ........ -2- ..... ........... ..... and like that but when I try to do it, Word likes to apply it to all pages of the document. And, of course, I can't just white it out, it'll look tacky please help it's very annoying. |

You *don't* use Insert | Page Number.
This link will explain all.... http://sbarnhill.mvps.org/WordFAQs/headerFooter.htm And you may also want to read http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting...rontMatter.htm On 6/1/05 10:40 PM, "dr_carpenter" wrote: PLEASE HELP. Actually, I think the link doesn't explain all--you want to turn on
Different First Page Header (File | Page Setup, Layout tab), then go to View | Header/Footer and enter the numbers where you want them (click # on h/f toolbar), separately in the First Page Footer and the regular Header. If you already used Insert | Page Number, delete that number, and be sure to select and delete the gray frame that Word put around the number. The articles do explain all, in the sense that all the required information
is present, but it can be difficult to winkle out if you start without any sense of what you're looking for. In addition to the articles Daiya referenced, this one may be helpful: http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting...lyIndented.htm -- Suzanne S. The simplest method is to use a pair of conditional fields.
Centred in the footer {IF {Page} = 1 "- {Page} - "} Aligned right in the header {IF {Page} 1 "- {Page} - "} Use CTRL+F9 to insert the field boundaries. -- Graham Mayor - Word MVP My web site www.gmayor.com Word MVP web site http://word.mvps.org dr_carpenter wrote: PLEASE HELP.
