I would like to set a password that will be required every time the document
is opened. In WordPerfect, I can easily do this by simply saving the document with a password. I would like to be able to do the same thing with Word. I used information in the help files and did the following: toolsoptionssecuritypassword to open (and checked OK after setting the password and again after re-entering). That did not work -- the document opened instantly without requiring the password. So, I repeated the sequence except that I entered a password in "password to modify." I still had the same problem -- as far as I can see, nothing happens because the doc opens without using the password. What do I need to do to accomplish this task? I am using MS Word 2002 (10.6612.6714) SP 3 and Win XP-Home Edition. Thanks, MaryL |

In the FileSaveAs dialog, select Security Options from the Tools pulldown
at the right hand end of the toolbar at the top of the dialog and via the Security dialog that appears, create a Password to open the document. Don't lose the password that you assign. -- Hope this helps. Please reply to the newsgroup unless you wish to avail yourself of my services on a paid consulting basis. Thanks! That did it. There's no danger of forgetting the password because
it is the same password that I use for other important documents. MaryL "Doug Robbins - Word MVP" wrote in message ... That's true, but I have used this same password for WordPerfect docs (and
now for Word docs) for several years. Incidentally, I do have number of passwords for various sites I access on the Internet. I keep a list, but those are the ones that give me some concerns.
