I installed a new microsoft keyboard and now my screen saver never comes on.
I went to properties and chose one again and set it to come on but it does
not. I am worried that this will hurt my computer screen.

This has nothing to do with Word - try a Windows forum, but FWIW having a
screen saver will make little, if any, difference to screen life.
