Hi! I'm having trouble opening my old .doc files on my new PC with Vista and
Office 2007 Pro. New .docx files open fine. The old .doc files show no
associated program, and when I click on associate or open with, MS Word is
not available, even if I browse to winword.exe it won't accept it and takes
me back to the open with starting page. None of the office programs show in
the default programs folder in Control panel, although all are installed and
working normally!
Any suggestions?

Have you tried to restore file associations? Click Start on the taskbar,
click run, type winword /r and then press Enter. If that doesn't help, you
might want to try repairing the installation of Office.

I did try all of those, but no joy! I also got some help from Terry on the
Word Application Errors DG. Eventually the only solution was to reformat and
reinstall Win Vista and Office. All OK now!
