[Lady P]

I wonder if anyone can help. A Swedish friend of mine has an 'o' in his name
with two little dots side by side, above this 'o'.
I can add it as a symbol to put in his name, but it doesn't seem to allow me
to chnage the size.
There has to be a better way of adding these letters of 'foreign' alphabets?
I've looked at changing the keyboard, but can't seem to do this, and I've
looked in fonts, but nothing there is any good to me either.

To insert "ö" you can use the Symbol dialog box (Insert | Symbol in Word
2003, Insert tab | Symbol | More Symbols in Word 2007). Make sure "Font" is
set to "(normal text)" (which means the current text font). Locate the
letter. Also note the "Shortcut key" displayed in the dialog box; you can
use this to quickly insert the letter. (If you need the uppercase variant,
locate that one the same way.)

If you only use the letter in your friend's name, you can create an
AutoCorrect entry to quickly insert the full name.

Alternatively, you can use the ANSI code to insert these letters. With
NUMLOCK activated, use Alt+0246 for "ö" and Alt+0214 for "Ö" (type the
numbers on the numeric keypad). This works in all Windows applications.

Hi Stefan,
I answered my own question.
To do it I used 'symbol' again, and then clicked on the button to change all
letters in the word to lowercase, it seems when I did 'insert' from symbols
area, it had inserted it in uppercase.
I've now also successfully added it to the dictionary.

You are welcome.

And, yes, any name can be added to the dictionary, even if it includes
"special characters." For what it's worth, for those of us who actually use
"ö" on a daily basis, it is not considered that special. g

If it is just your friend's name that is at issue, why not create a
formatted autocorrect entry to include the symbol in his name when you type
it without?
