Default Older Word Files

After installing a recent Windows XP upgrade offered in Microsoft Upgrade, my
older doc files created by Word 2000 no longer show when I try to open them
in Word. I understand that Microsoft has a fix for this, but I am unable to
locate that fix. Can someone point me to the appropriate place?
